Two Men Prayed

Luke 18:9  “Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else.”

There were two men, a Pharisee and a tax collector. The Pharisee told God that he was not like everyone else. He did all the right things and that he was a good person. However, the tax collector told the Lord that he was not a good person and needed the Lord’s mercy.

Years ago, I used to think like this man, the Pharisee. I thought that I wasn’t so bad. I didn’t kill anyone, steal, or hurt anyone. But as I really thought about things, perhaps I did hurt others. Maybe I was condescending. Maybe I borrowed something and forgot to return it. My harmful, unkind words really did hurt someone. Could I even remember these actions from my youth? I’m sorry Lord, please forgive me if I have hurt someone with my words or in any other way.

Prayer: Loving God, please forgive me for any words or actions on my part that have hurt anyone. I am truly sorry for this God. Thank you for these stories and lessons to help make us more humble and kind towards others.  Amen.
