Isaiah 43:1 “But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name, you are mine.”

There are many stories in the Bible where God has renamed His people. We can think of a few. How about these – Abram to Abraham; Sarai to Sarah; Jacob to Israel; and Jesus, who changed Simon’s name to Peter. I often wondered why these names were changed. I think people’s names were changed because they had a special place in God’s heart and they were called to do a special job God. I think God calls each one of us by name. There was a certain time in the lives of Abraham, Sarah, Jacob and Peter when God called their names. They were called to do something for God – something called a mission.
Don’t ever have doubts if you hear God’s call on your life. And don’t be afraid if you feel the call is from God. The song from Voices United called “I Have Called You by Name, You are Mine” (words and music by Daniel Charles Damon) gives you’re the strength and courage to step up boldly and obey God’s call. Here are some of the words from Damon’s verses: “I have called you by your name, you are mine. I have gifted you and ask you now to shine. I will not abandon you; all my promises ae true. You are gifted, called, and chosen; you are mine.”
Prayer: Pray this prayer using your own name saying “Dear God, I hear You calling my name. Is it really You God? Help me to understand. Thank you for giving me the gifts to go out into the world and shine for You. Amen.
