Matthew 11: 2-9 v 3 “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”
John the Baptist, who was in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. He sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Jesus told them to go back to John and tell him what you have seen. “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.” Jesus began talking about John to the crowds. “Were you expecting a prophet? Yes, and he is more than a prophet.
Even John the Baptist, sent to be more than a prophet had questions about the identity of Jesus. Are you the Messiah or should we keep looking? Life is a journey and looking for the next new thing to come around that is bright and shiny is exciting. There is a certain disappointment in finding what you have been looking for if you were enjoying the search. Looking for the perfect gift, which gets a mere thank you and not a whoop and a high five response that means you must keep looking? But what if we have everything that we need and we do not need to look any more? That in the unlikely form of a baby we were able to see God. Just as our children and grandchildren grow each year, changing into amazing people, so God grows in our hearts changing us into what He wants us to be. We have all that we need, the looking is over!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for sending your son as a baby and celebrate that the looking for the Messiah is over and we have all that we need. Amen.
