Psalm 72: 1-7, 10-14v” May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth.”
Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son. Let the poor always be treated fairly. Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors. May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut gras, like the showers that water the earth. All kings will bow before him and, and all nations will serve him. He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them. Their lives are precious to Him.

There is something refreshing about the New Year. Packing up the Christmas decorations today, being the twelve night allows for reorganization and clearing of our living space. Setting into motion the priorities of our lives. How are we going to rule in the kingdom we live in? This psalm reminds us of God’s priorities. First justice and pass it on to the next generation as well. Defend the poor, those who feel they are less than you, make children a priority and encourage those around them to build them up and not put them down. May whatever you do be refreshing like spring rain. In the depth of winter, look forward to the joys of spring! Make sure to help the weak and the needy for their lives are precious to God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for each new season that refreshes us as your people. Help us today to seek justice for those we meet, to be as refreshing as spring rain. Amen.
