John1: 29- 42 v 39” “Come and see”, He said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with Him to the place where he was staying and they remained with Him the rest of the day.”
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. “Come and see”, He said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with Him to the place where he was staying and they remained with Him the rest of the day.” Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “ We have found the Messiah” Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John- but you will be called Cephas” ( which means “Peter”)

Every small detail of our lives is important to God. So are the small details in the bible. Two things stood out for me today in this reading. The significance of 4 o’clock and Jesus looking intently at Simon, who he then renamed Peter! In Jesus’s time if you went to someone’s house at 4pm you were given refreshments, then would be invited to supper and then as it would be dark by this time to stay the night. In fact, it says, “they stayed with Him for the rest of the day.” Their response to Jesus’s “come and see” was a commitment for the remainder of the day. And when He looked intently at Simon and renamed him Peter, he knew Peter was in it for the long hall. John the Baptist couldn’t get away from seeing Jesus, the disciples were instantly drawn to Him and grew more deeply attached as He taught them. A model for us to follow. Once we have responded to His call we need to go deeper and in finding out more about Jesus, we find out more about ourselves and our purpose. It is all in the details!
Prayer: Heavenly Father we thank you sending us your son who is an example we all can follow, to be the best we can be. Amen.
