What does the Lord require of you?

Micah 6: 1-8 v v3 “O my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me!”

Listen to what the Lord is saying. “Stand up and state your case against me.” And now O mountains listen to the Lord’s complaint! O my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me! Don’t you remember, my people, how Kink Balak of Moab tried to have you cursed and how Balaam son of Boer blessed you instead? What can we bring to the Lord? Should we offer Him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? No, O my people, this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

In any relationship we sometimes hold onto the problems and forget to look at the positives. Here we see God asking for our complaints and Him responding with don’t you remember the good times? Ultimately it is not about things we own and practical gifts that we can give each other because we expect things in return, but about doing what is right for ourselves and for our neighbors even if there are no rewards, because we first love God!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, who loves us and wants the best for us as we live in relationship with Him, guide us today to do what is right, without reward, knowing that you walk with us. Amen.
