Salt, Light, Law!

Matthew 5: 13-20 v 18 “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.”

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? You are the light of the world- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. In the same way let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of heaven.

“I came to accomplish their purpose.” Matthew 5 v 17b

I have always loved watching the Olympic games as there is always something to learn, and learning is one of my passions. This year I am hearing the importance of all the small details. And what a surprise when we read in this passage in the bible that all the small details of God’s laws are important. There is also emphasis on the team behind the individual athlete, from an array of professionals to family and friends. All have a part to play. And God does not want us to do things by ourselves, but He plants a team for us to work with, each with different abilities and concerns to do what He wants. As we struggle with the violence that is apparent in our world today despite the fun and amazing feats of the Olympic games let us season those around us and shine our light on the problems that are important to God as we obey His teachings.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we ask that you help us to find shelter from violence under your wings as we hope to shine your light on the problems of this world and season them with your love, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
