Into the clouds with God!

Exodus 24:12-18 v 18 “Then Moses climbed higher up the mountain. He remained on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.”

Then the Lord said to Moses,” Come up to me on the mountain.” So Moses climbed up the mountain of God.  And the glory of the Lord settled down on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from inside the cloud. To the Israelites at the bottom of the mountain the glory of the Lord appeared at the summit like a consuming fire. Then Moses climbed higher up the mountain. He remained on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

This week is the start of the period of Lent, forty days, starting on Wednesday, when Jesus spent time in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. Here much earlier in the bible story is another 40-day period when Moses went up the mountain at Gods command. Once on the mountain he had to climb higher to speak with God and what Moses experienced and what the people at the bottom of the mountain saw was very different. Moses was in the clouds and in the presence of God, the Israelites were without their leader and saw a consuming fire! God provides very different experiences in our lives. He prompts us to follow Him in different ways, some go up the mountain and some stay at the bottom and see his miracles from afar, safely surrounded by others. Over the next few days go into the cloud with God and see what He has in mind for you for the next forty days of lent. God is calling you as He has a purpose for everyone.

Prayer: Almighty God who calls us up the mountain today help us to see your purpose for our lives. Amen.
