2 Thessalonians 3: 6-13v 10 “ Even when we were with you, we gave you this command” Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”
On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.
Today’s passage is a reminder to hold on to the work ethic. With easy entertainment at our fingertips 24 / 7 via the internet, smart phones, tablets, and TV’s it is easy to be idle, to be absorbed in the next level, the next episode, and to not be aware of the needs of others around you as you concentrate on a screen. So, in the name of Jesus Christ, I ask that some put down their screens and contribute to the family or community around you. Even if you have worked hard for the retirement joys of more time to relax never forget that there is always work as well as good works to be done. Never tire of doing what is good.

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you encouraging balance in our lives of work and play. Give us the strength to keep working and to do good in all our remaining days. Amen.
