Compassion

Matthew 9:35-10:8 v 36 “When He (Jesus) saw the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Jesus travelled throughout all the towns and villages teaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” The harvest is great, but the workers are few. Jesus called the disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness. Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Give as freely as you have received.

The bible tells us about Jesus. In this passage we find out two things, that He is a teacher, teaching about the Good News of the Kingdom and that He is compassionate. When I was a teenager, I was given a bible titled “The Good News Bible” it used contemporary language of the day and had line drawings in it. Funny the things that stay with you! The more I read the bible the more I understand what good news it is for all people. Finding a translation of the bible that you can relate to is important. Keep looking.

“Jesus travelled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good news about the Kingdom.” Matthew 9 v 35

Compassion, in the dictionary says” sympathetic pity and concern for the suffering or misfortunes of others. “Jesus had compassion for the crowds he was teaching. He was then and is now aware of our suffering and misfortunes and wants to help. He then sent out His disciples, other believers to help, to heal every kind of disease and illness. Who has helped you heal this week? How does it make you feel knowing that they were sent by Jesus?

Prayer: Holy God we thank you for sending us the help we need through your Son Jesus who teaches us the good news about your Kingdom and helps us when we are suffering. Amen.
