Matthew 13:31-33,44-52 v 33 He told them still another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a women took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
The Kingdom is like …….a mustard seed, yeast in a large batch of dough, treasure in a field, a pearl of great value, a net full of fish that is sorted into good and bad. Every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the Kingdom of heaven brings out from the storeroom new treasures as well as old.

During the pandemic, being home and looking for things to do I tried to make bread. I brought some yeast although it was hard to find (I guess others had the same idea too!) Using different recipes, I eventually learnt that it was the kneading of the dough that was important in perfecting the final product, to distribute the yeast evenly. I would make a loaf of bread with a pound of flour so sixty pounds is a large amount of flour and working the yeast into the flour would take a huge effort for the best results. The mustard seed starts so small but grows a great tree…treasure, worth searching for, a pearl, giving up everything to have, and even those caught in the net of faith will be sorted by angels, with the bad thrown away. All these parables tell us a different aspect of the Kingdom of God. They are relevant today as we can understand the images taught thousands of years ago.
