Genesis 32:22-31 v 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.
Jacob was travelling with his family and came to a stream. He first sent over his family, his wives and his sons then his possessions and as a result was left alone on the opposite side of the riverbank. What he thought was a man came and wrestled with him. Jacob was strong and persistent in the fight as it lasted the rest of the night. The “man” touched his hip and it was wrenched from its socket and Jacob had a limp. The man asked Jacob to let him go. Jacob wanted to be blessed by the man, and the man blessed him. Jacob realized that he was fighting with God and not a man.

But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there. Genesis 32 v 29
Has God ever wrestled with you? Whatever your opinion I can guarantee that God will win, but it will be for your good, you will be blessed. This is what we see here. God only had to touch Jacob’s hip and it was wrenched as he wrestled. Jacob realized that he was lucky to have come out of the fight with his life. Has God wrenched your hip? Given you a reason to stop and check that you are on the right road? I certainly have changed feelings about the lockdowns of the pandemic. Maybe it was a good thing to slow down. To learn to be happy staying at home. To appreciate large gatherings as they had been taken away. To be blessed by learning and writing about the bible.
Take time today to re assess where you are. It not now there is a blessing just around the corner.
Prayer: Holy God I am sorry that I am fighting with you today. Please bless me with the understanding of what you want me to do now and always. Amen.
