Fathers voice

1 Kings 19:9-18 v 12 And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.”

Elijah was afraid for his life. He was the only prophet left so fled to a mountain and hid there. God asked what he was doing? Elijah told him. God said He would pass by so from the safety of the cave Elijah waited. First came a mighty windstorm, that dislodged rocks, but the Lord was not there. Then there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not there.  And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.” Elijah responded to the whisper and came out of the cave. God asked him again “What are you doing here Elijah?” Elijah again replied “he was afraid for his life and despite his zealous teachings Israel had broken their promises and torn down the alters to the Lord. “The Lord then gave him instructions on how to move forward as there are still 7,000 who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him.

“Then the Lord told him. Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there anoint Hazael to be king of Aram.” 1 Kings 19 v 15

Elijah’s predicament is all too familiar, as the world was locked down for two years. We all huddled in our “caves” afraid for our lives to go out. There were storms in our hearts and rumblings of frustration but outside the skies and the canals cleared of pollution and human destruction. Many asked the question. What are we doing? Work from home became normal and has continued for many or at least a hybrid form. Families learned to use technology to connect. Virtual teaching for adults was great for children, not so good, so the value of socialization for the young was cherished. And in the quiet moments the sound of God’s voice was heard. God’s people realized as we like Elijah, were told to travel back down familiar roads new leaders are emerging and Godly people are gathering again. Those who were thought to be the only ones left have found others to be with.

Prayer: Heavenly Father as we listen to your whispered commands to go back down familiar roads and find new leaders and fellowship with other believers, we thank you for being with us always. Amen

  1. What an appropriate + beautiful analogy!
So very true. What is that we really learn in tough times of our lives? God is surely with us + for us.

The accompanying photo of the children secures the point. THANK YOU!
