Until the next time!

Luke 4: 1-13 v 13 “When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left Him until the next opportunity came.”

Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led to the wilderness for forty days. Jesus ate nothing and became very hungry. Then the devil said” If you are the Son of God tell this stone to become a loaf of bread. Jesus told him no. People do not live by bread alone. Then the devil said” I will give it all(the kingdoms of the world), if you will worship me. Jesus replied, “You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.” Then the devil told Him to jump off from the top of the temple. Jesus replied, “You must not test the Lord your God.” When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left Him until the next opportunity came.

“I will give you the glory of these Kingdoms and authority over them.” the devil said. Luke 4 v 6a

There are many things that Jesus did that are not recorded in the bible so all that is there has a significance for each one of us. We learn about who God is and what our relationship to Him is and how to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. Here we see Jesus taking time to be alone, away from the distractions of the world, for forty days. Then the devil shows up, telling Him to use his powers to satisfy His only personal need to eat because He is hungry. Jesus knows that “people do not live by bread alone.” There is more to life than satisfying our own wants and needs. What do we need to do? “Worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.” Think in all we do ‘what would Jesus do?” Do we call on God to do a favor of our own desire? No, “You must not test the Lord your God.” Like Jesus we must be led by the Holy Spirit and find out where God is already working and join Him. Be strong, aware that the devil is always looking for the next opportunity!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the experiences of your Son that teach us each day. Open our hearts to being led by the Holy Spirit to the work you want us to do today. Help us resist the temptations of the devil that are there also. Amen.
