Family Fun in Lent

One of the three spiritual practices in lent is fasting. Fasting is giving up eating. Sometimes your doctor wants to do certain tests or you have to have an operation and you can be asked to not eat after a certain time during the day or night until the test or the operation has been done.

To fast for religious reasons, because you believe in God, can take many forms. Giving up eating certain things on certain days like not eating red meat on a Friday , having fish for supper is a type of fast. Giving up can also be associated with giving out. Giving the money or buying food for someone else who might not have enough money to eat.

Fasting makes us thankful for the food that we have.

Today as a family think about giving up a food that you like for the rest of the day and think about giving out to someone who is in need. Examples of giving can be found on our giving page

End your day with a prayer and you will have done all three spiritual practices today!

Prayer: Thank you God for all the food we have to eat. Amen.
