Parable of the Evil Farmers

Luke 20:9-19 v 14: But when the tenant farmers saw his son, they said to each other, ’Here comes the heir to this estate. Let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves.’

Jesus turned to the people again and told this story: “A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and moved to another country to live for several years. At the time of the harvest, he sent a servant to collect his share of the crop. The farmers beat him up and sent him away empty handed. He sent two more servants then decided to send his son. But when the tenant farmers saw his son, they said to each other, ’Here comes the heir to this estate. Let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves. So, they murdered him. “What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do to them?”” How terrible”, his listeners said. Jesus repeated the scripture” The stone that the builders rejected has now become the corner stone.” The teachers of the religious law and the leading priests realized that they were the wicked farmers.

” The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” Luke 20 v 17b

There is always conflict in this world between people. Our news today is full of tension between people, countries, and religious identities. How terrible we all say. Those in charge can see what they are doing but will continue anyway. If we believe in the corner stone that has the ability to crush anyone it falls on, our job is to continue to live with love in our hearts in our corner of the world, to focus on the good things we can do and continue to pray to a God who sent his son because he loves the world.

Prayer: Heavenly Father who sent his son to save anyone who believes we thank you. Amen.
