Road to the Cross Jesus washes His disciples’ feet

John 13: 3-17 v “14 “since I your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.”

Jesus knew that the Father had given Him authority over everything. He took off His robe, wrapped a towel around His waist, and poured water into a basin. Then He began to wash is disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around Him. After washing their feet he asked, “Do you understand what I am doing?” Since I your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.  I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. Slaves are not greater than their masters. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

“After washing their feet , He put on his robe again and sat down and asked,” Do you understand what I am doing?” John 13 v 12

Often, we see Jesus practicing what He preaches and here is a wonderful example of this. In our daily journey to be more like Him I find our human nature always makes things a struggle. Look then at how Jesus was able to do this, he started by taking off His robe. We need to take off our coverings of this world, pride, arrogance, for a start. Equip ourselves with the tools we need to complete the job, love and patience. Then do the job until the end, persevere. And God will bless us. You will find a deep joy in following Jesus’ example.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the examples, Jesus gave us on how to follow you, to do your work on earth despite the downside of our human nature. Help us this week to be more like Jesus in all we do. Amen
