1 Kings 19: 15-21v 21: “So Elisha went back to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plough to build a fire and roast their flesh.”
Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. Anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel- meholah to replace you as prophet.” So, Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. Elijah threw his cloak across his shoulders then walked away. Elisha left his oxen standing there and said” First let me go kiss my father and mother good-bye, and then I will go with you!” Elijah replied, “Go on back, but think about what I have done to you.” So, Elisha went back to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plough to build a fire and roast their flesh. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant.

Mostly in our lives we want to move forward and indeed in the bible there are references to keep on running the race, not giving up, preserve to win. But here we see “go back” as being the prominent initiative, as well as returned and goodbye. Elijah adds to the “go back”, think about what I have done. Elisha was thinking that his new mission was to be his new destiny as he killed his oxen and built a fire with his plough, destroying his current livelihood with no way of going back. If God has asked you to “go back” make sure you think about it and decern what his new plan is.
Prayer: Heavenly Father as many of your children are returning home for vacations, or going back to their favorite summer place, we ask that you help them think and to see what new direction you require of them as they go back. Amen.
