A new baby

Micah 5:2-5a v 4 The child will become the shepherd of his flock. He will lead them with the strength of the Lord, with the majestic name of the Lord his God. They will live in safety because his greatness will reach the ends of the earth.”

A mother has a child. The child will become the shepherd of his flock. This man will be their peace.

Advent is about waiting. In following the story that leads to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem every year new insights are learned in the contrast between the worldly crazy busy commercial Christmas and that lowly stable where a mother had a child. In this instant world of online shopping, cell phone communication, social media spreading ideas “to the ends of the earth” spend time to think about a mother who had a child. Have you ever held a newborn baby, one only a few hours or days old? For me it always causes me to pause, smile and enjoy the moment. What the child will become is a mystery but for Jesus even before he was born, He was identified as the shepherd of his flock. However, it takes years for a child to grow and many people around to help with the process. God wanted to start with that moment of awe, with a new baby.

Prayer: Almighty Father thank you for giving us the image of your son, Jesus arriving on this earth as a baby, with the hope and peace that brings great joy to us today. Amen.
