Hope in Christ

1 Corinthians 15:12-20 v 19 “And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.”

‘For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless. And we apostles have been lying about God- for we have said that God raised Christ from the dead.”

My Dad used to say the only things guaranteed in life are death and taxes. It is surprising then that so many intelligent people do not make a will or only spend a brief amount of time on organizing an event that is guaranteed. My Mom on the other hand would whisper to me during a church service, “I want to have this hymn at my funeral” Surprisingly having a conversation about funerals is important and can help with the grieving process if you know that “you are doing what they wanted”.

Angels in heaven

Here the disciples are going one step further than the funeral. Having a conversation about the risen Christ. As witnesses to the actual events of the time and sharing what they had experienced with others, there was no doubt in their minds that they had seen the risen Christ. That God raised Christ from the dead. Would God lie about such a thing? And if we believe that Jesus was only a good person sent to give us some great rules about how to live on earth but nothing more, should we be pitied? Our hope in Christ is that we can praise God for eternity, in our risen bodies, how amazing is that! God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

Prayer: Holy God thank you for putting the eternal in our hearts and sending Jesus our eternal hope. Amen
