Something New

Isaiah 43: 16 – 21v 18-19 “ But forget all that- it is nothing compared with what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new.”

The Lord reminds us here of how He parted the Red Sea and let the Israelites pass through but drowned the mighty Egyptian army that was chasing them. He then says “But forget all that- it is nothing compared with what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new.” “Do you not see it” “I will create rivers in the dry wasteland,” “so my chosen people can be refreshed.”

Growing up I had a neighbor who was in advertising, and he told me the most used word in advertising is “new”. I think that is still true today although the “new” thing is video advertising using social media and yes Facebook is still the top platform in the world and growing. But are we refreshed by these “new “things we must have for a good life? For years we have walked around the garage sales in May in New Dundee, and I would notice the “new” gadget that many had brought, one year it was the Abmaster a machine for toning your abdominal muscles, then the magic bullet for sale at many of the homes. These add campaigns work but the items are soon discarded.

“For I am about to do something new” Isaiah 43 v 19

God is still changing things for the better. Using new technology and social justice initiatives.  New online ministries allow people to be connected whatever is going on in their lives. Missionaries are working with the local populations to encourage more sustainable economic growth and therefore sustainable relief from poverty and hunger. With God at the head, and Jesus at our side and the Holy Spirit within, “nothing compares with what He can do”, “So my chosen people can be refreshed”
