Freedom

Galatians 5:1 13-25 v 13 “You were indeed called to be free, brothers and sisters. Don’t turn this freedom into an excuse for your corrupt nature to express itself. Rather, serve each other through love.”

Be firm in freedom, don’t become slaves again. Live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Your corrupt nature is contrary to your spiritual nature. But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that. You were indeed called to be free, brothers and sisters. Don’t turn this freedom into an excuse for your corrupt nature to express itself. Rather, serve each other through love.”

School is out. Children are graduating and new opportunities are opening. I remember experiencing life away from the restrictions of home. Having heated discussions about predestined life. After all God had already written in His book the pages of my life. However heady with the realization that I could make decisions as an adult away from parental censorship I stood up for the choices I still had to make. That they were mine and mine alone and I could go down many different paths in my life. I felt free, no longer a “slave” to the expectations of family and exited about making new friends and enjoying new freedoms. First discovery, I missed my family! Second my new “work” was hard. I had to concentrate in class and spent more time studying than out “having fun” to survive the weekly tests. And then as now I found joy and peace in serving others instead of my own corrupt nature.

“Rather serve each other with love” Galatians 5 v 13

Prayer: Holy Father thank you for giving us the freedom to follow you and the freedom to fail. To find the fruits of the spirit in helping others rather than ourselves. In Jesus name we pray amen.
