Faith looks forward

Hebrews 11: 1-3. 8-16 v 13 “All these people died having faith. They didn’t receive the things that God had promised them. But they saw the things coming in the distant future and rejoiced.”

Faith assures us of some things. Convinces us of things we cannot see. Abraham who had faith left his own country without knowing where he was going. Faith enabled Abraham to be a father in his old age.

Many people had faith in God because of Abraham. All these people died having faith. They didn’t receive the things that God had promised them. But they saw the things coming in the distant future and rejoiced.” God prepared a city for them.

“Abraham left his own country without knowing
where he was going” Hebrews 11v 8b

Growing children as a mother I spent most of my days looking forward. I wanted my toddlers to love books so that they would be comfortable in school. I wanted them to complete high school so encouraged them to finish homework. I wanted my teenagers to be able to understand finances when they left home so taught them how to use a credit card. I wanted our family to have fun in the summer so booked camping sites in March. In this passage we see God looking forward and encouraging us in our faith journey to also look forward to a time when we can live in a heavenly city made by God. To rejoice where we are knowing that the promises that God makes will happen even if in the distant future.

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for giving us hope for the future, knowing that you have a plan for all of us as we demonstrate our faith to others. You are faithful in your promise to prepare a city for us to live in in heaven. Amen.
