Two-way thing!

Luke 14: 1, 7-14. v 7 “Then Jesus noticed how the guests always chose the places of honor. So he used this illustration when He spoke to them.”

It was a day of worship. Jesus gathered with a group of people, who were watching Jesus very closely. “Then Jesus noticed how the guests always chose the places of honor. So he used this illustration when He spoke to them.” He talked about being invited to a celebration, a wedding, and said how embarrassing it would be if they sat in the best seat then were asked to move as someone more prominent than them arrived. Wouldn’t it be better to sit in a lowly position and have the host raise you to a higher position for all to see! Those who honor themselves will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be honored.”

It’s a two-way thing our faith. At the start of this passage the guests are watching Jesus, very closely. Something we should all spend some time doing. How great it would have been to be a guest at a party knowing that Jesus would be there! Visiting the Holy Land is on my bucket list to walk the streets where He was. One day it will happen if it is what God wants for me. That is the two-way thing. He has a purpose for us, and when that is aligned with His great things happen. As in the illustration. Better to humbly sit at a table and be honored by the host and raised up by him. Better to humbly walk with God and seek His purpose for your life rather than wish for bigger and better things and be shown that that is not His will. We must watch Him, and He is watching us.

“On the day of Worship Jesus went to the home of a prominent Pharisee” Luke 14 v 1

Prayer: Holy God thank you for sending us Jesus who showed us how be the best we can be. We are sorry that some days we decide to rush into bigger and better instead of starting small and you raising us up. Help us today to humbly walk with you. Amen.
