Transformation by Love

Philemon 1 1- 1-21v 7 “Your love for God’s people, gives me a lot of joy and encouragement. You, brother, have comforted God’s people.”

Paul in prison at this time writes this short letter which is found in the New Testament showing how a person can be transformed by faith in God. He also commends Philemon because he looked after fellow Christians. ” Your love for God’s people, gives me a lot of joy and encouragement. You, brother, have comforted God’s people.”

Here we see the possibility of personal transformation and the importance of lovingly comforting God’s people. In my career I have worked in a variety of places and therefore had many interviews. Most of the time the demand for work has exceeded the supply so the interview process was all about when you could start work. However, on one occasion I remember a grueling interview which included the question about describing your own strengths and weaknesses. Having done zero preparation, I remember walking out of the interview thinking there was no way I would get the job. I was very surprised when I got a call a week later offering me the position. Despite my failure to impress at the interview I was offered the position. God can see the good in all of us too so even if we fail the interview process, He loves us so much He will give us a chance to be useful where we find ourselves. We must also extend that love to others. Remembering that God finds joy when we comfort fellow believers.

“I am confident as I write to you that you will do this.” Philemon 1 v 21

Prayer: Holy Father thank you for loving us and sending us to places where others need comforting and to be shown your love by our own actions. Remember that Jesus walks beside us and the Holy Spirit guides us today and every day. Amen.
