Luke 16 1-13 v 8 “The master praised the dishonest manager for being so clever. Worldly people are more clever than spiritually minded people when it comes to dealing with others.”
Jesus speaks about dishonesty. A rich man realized by looking at his financial statements that his manager was not doing a good job with looking after his property. He decided to let him go. The poor manager thought about this problem, realized that the alternatives, working at a physical job or begging were not for him, so devised a plan to further the rich man’s losses but make himself ‘good’ in the eyes of those who owed the rich man. He told those who owed items to reduce the debt in the books. The master praised the dishonest manager for being so cleaver. Worldly people are more clever than spiritually minded people when it comes to dealing with others.”
Observing the lives of the rich and famous is fascinating. Just look at the TV shows about the rich families in different cities of the world, magazines devoted to ‘stories’ about the “real life of the stars”. And those that don’t want to share their stories with the world are often thought of as odd or that they must be hiding something. Are the lives of the rich and famous we crave to hear about so good? The rich man in Jesus’s story wasn’t so wonderful after all because when he found out about the devious nature of his manager, he praised him. We see that those who have lots of money are sad and lonely. They often work endlessly to maintain their riches. Sometimes the dishonest and wealthy people in this world do OK.

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with a lot.” Luke 16 v 10
Jesus wants us to be OK with who we are and where we are today. To not wish for more money but use the money we have well. To be honest with those around us, valuing the relationships we have. Invest in the good you see in people and leave God to mange the rest. He wants you to be the best you can be.
Prayer: Holy and Life-giving God thank you for today. For the changing seasons, and the wealth of love surrounding us. Show us how to invest in the best of those we meet today with the money we have. Amen.
