New Jerusalem

Sunday Isaiah 65: 17 – 25 v 19 “I will rejoice over Jerusalem ad delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more.”

“Look! I am creating new heavens a new earth, and no one will think about the old ones anymore. Jerusalem will be a place of happiness, her people a source of joy. And the sound of weeping and crying will be no more. The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. I the Lord have spoken.

“While they are still taking about their needs I will go ahead and answer their prayers!” Isaiah 65 v 24b.

I have written this past week about being away and connecting with the past. Today I am home. Looking around the familiar and seeing things with a new eye and new attitude due to the experiences of the past few weeks and I am happy to be home. I can therefore relate to this passage of a need for change, no more crying or weeping. No more babies dying or adults not living a full life. Yes, I can hope for all these things. Can I imagine the wolf and the lamb feeding together? The lion eating hay? Not so easily. I can one minute be all in with a loving and caring God then my practical sides takes over and I find myself restricting the power of God to human understanding. So today think of a New Jerusalem beyond our understanding. “In those days no one will be hurt or destroyed on my holy mountain. I, the Lord have spoken.”

Prayer: Almighty God encourage me to think big, beyond my own understanding to a time when no one will be hurt on your mountain. Amen.
