Rescued

Luke 1:68-79 v 24 -25 “We have been rescued from our enemies so that we can serve God without fear. In holiness and righteousness for as long as we live.”

Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist was given these words by God for us today. A mighty savior, just as He promised, to save us from our enemies. Merciful, rescued, to serve God, for as long as we live. John himself will prepare the way. The morning light from heaven is about to break on us.” To guide us to the path of peace.

Like many Christians around the world I have started to decorate for Christmas. The first thing I do is organize my snowman collection. Over the years of our marriage, I have collected snowmen and others have also contributed. Little by little I have enough to fill a longish shelf and the top of a cabinet in the kitchen. My husband helped me this year but got frustrated when to him there was not enough room. However, looking around for spaces I was able to rearrange things slightly and display them all and as always was able to smile at the end result.

It got me thinking about this passage and the bible. The words of the bible were collected over many years, written by many different people. They all fit into one book, the most published book in the world. Sometimes we feel frustrated as the stories don’t seem to fit in the same place. However, God fulfills his promises, rescues us and gives us all we need to do his work. Guiding us to the path of peace, for as long as we live. So even though we know the ending of the book, we see the same pages year after year we find joy in the reading and the actions it promotes us to do. So as you decorate this year be reminded that we have been rescued from our enemies so we can serve God without fear.”

“Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light is about to break upon us” Luke 1 v 78

Prayer: As we await the morning light, we praise God for giving us people who prepare our way, rescuing us from our sins and guiding us to the path of peace. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
