Matthew 24: 36-44v 42 “So you too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.”
Mathew is talking about the return of Jesus. He talks about Noah and the flood. People were going to parties and weddings right up to the time the waters started to fill the earth, then they were swept away. So, you too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.” If we knew our house was to be burgled, we would stay home and keep watch protecting our things. You must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.
This week has been about reminding us to wake up to our duties as a Christian and now to watch for the coming of Jesus. Only God knows when that will be. The celebration of Jesus’s birth, the waiting, and the wonder of the story with angels, with shepherds, with Wisemen, happened along time ago. For us today our job is to keep watch for Him coming again. It wasn’t a good time to be born, among the animals, among political oppression, but those around who were open to the miracles changed their lives because of what they saw. God is watching us, and we must therefore be ready and watching for Him too. Now. Today. Are you open to the miracles of Jesus’ birth? Are you doing your job today, watching for His return? “You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” (Matthew 24 v 44)

Matthew 24 v 39.
Prayer: Almighty God thank you for being with us each day. Help us to watch for the signs of your presence and to keep watch for Jesus’s return. Amen.
