James 5: 7-10 v 8 “Come close to God and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”
Humble yourself before God. “Come close to God and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” Let there be tears and deep grief. Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.
The Christmas season is about sharing and caring but do we think of it as a time for being humble and coming closer to God? This week is my crazy Christmas week, all the “normal” activities of the week plus a Christmas parade, a Christmas concert, special visits from family and time spent buying presents. It’s the sort of week when the world tries to take hold of Christmas. However even in all this busy I have found God moments in the small not so spectacular things. Doing the dishes and looking out at my back yard to see a Pileated Woodpecker, at 17 1/2 “the largest in North America. Small helping hands making it difficult to put together a family meal, and everyone complimenting on how great it all tasted! Delivering meals and finding the driveway full, I had to park on the opposite side of the main street. Then a train came by, halting the traffic so I was able to walk across the street without worrying.

Prayer: Thank you God for being there to show us that the joy of the season requires us to humbly come close to you each day. Amen.
