Patience

Isaiah 7: 10 – 16 v 13 Then Isaiah said” Listen well, you royal family of David. Isn’t it enough to exhaust human patience? Must you exhaust the patience of my God as well?”

God wanted to give the King a reassuring sign. But the King said No! Then Isaiah said” Listen well, you royal family of David. Isn’t it enough to exhaust human patience? Must you exhaust the patience of my God as well?” So God through the prophet Isaiah gave him a sign anyway. That a child would be born from a virgin, and they will call Him Emmanuel “God is with us” When that child is old enough to eat yogurt and honey, the lands of the two kings you fear most will be deserted.

I was asked the other day “What do you want for Christmas”. As a mother and a grandmother, I was too busy thinking about the “best” gift for others and replied that I did not need anything! I noticed that the same theme was apparent in my prayer life. I was busy making requests for others and not making a point to be sorry for some of the things I had done or to request help for the things I was doing. I sure was testing the patience of those around me, and was I like the King also testing the patience of God? The point of the Christmas season is that we are all given a gift from God. A time when God came to earth as a baby. Vulnerable, needing care like all of us. Today take a moment to look inside of yourself and find what you need this Christmas and take that request to God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am sorry if I have tested the patience of those around me and of you too. Give me the right attitude to continue to focus on loving you and those around me as your son Jesus taught us to. Amen.

  1. I really appreciated today’s message. As a fellow Mom and Grandma, I am sensitive of our “looking after others” mentality and the pleasure this gives us. But you are so right when you suggest that we look after everyone, and that includes US. Gaze at your CALM rock occasionally… I hope it gives you some peace, Janet! Love Kay
