I Believe!

Romans 4:1-5, 13-17 v 16 “So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.”

Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of the Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God? Was it his good deeds? Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. When we work our wages are earned not a gift. People are counted as righteous not from work but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary. The only way to avoid not breaking the law is to have no law to break. “So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.”

“So the promise is received by faith. It is a free gift.” Romans 5 v 16

At this point in time, I am two months away from writing this daily blog for two years. I have grown in my faith journey because I have spent intentional time to do it. I worry less and laugh more as my husband said that to me just the other day. But I still screw up! I go to bed angry at my husband. I get frustrated when others don’t seem to hear what I am saying. I get discouraged when the stats for my blog writing say that no one new read it this week! And then God gives me and you a passage like this. It is not our work that we get paid for, or our good works that we do for others, or obeying the law all the time as that is impossible. It is our belief in a God who forgives us time and time again. Who gives us the free gift of His love and protection. I believe, and I hope that these words from the bible encourage you to believe too.

Prayer: Holy God thank you for loving us despite our failings. That you sent your Son so that all could be saved from our sins large and small. That even if our faith is as small as a mustard seed you will help it grow as we contemplate your words in the bible as often as we can.  Amen.
