Looking

 John 4:5-42 v 23 “But the time is coming- indeed it is here now- when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way. “

Jesus had to go through Samaria on the way. (He left Judea and was going to Galilee). He came to the Samaritan village of Sychar. Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus tired from the long walk sat wearily beside the well about noontime. A Samaritan women came. Jesus said, “Please give me a drink.” The women was surprised, for Jews usually have nothing to do with Samaritans. Jesus replied “, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” The women questioned the practicalities of where this water would come from. Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. The Samaritan women believed Jesus was a prophet, so she asked a question. “So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim. Jesus replied, But the time is coming- indeed it is here now- when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way. “Then the women ran back to town, leaving her water jug at the well. She tole others she had found the Messiah and they streamed out of the village to see Him.  Many Samaritans from the village believed because of what the woman said.  Now we know that He is indeed the savior of the world.

When you read this, I will have just got back from a journey of my own. Travelling by plane the journey is long and tiring. As Jesus sat by the well, in the heat of the day He was exhausted by his travels too. Then along came a Samaritan women and despite this He saw a teachable moment and offered the women living water. And gave us a wonderful description of what believing in Him does for us. It gives us a fresh bubbling spring giving eternal life. He knew about the women and accepted her as she was. He also taught due to her question about where to worship; “But the time is coming- indeed it is here now- when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way.” If you talk to others who are different to you then many people will be saved. If you worship in spirit and in truth, that is what the Father is looking for.

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for sending your Son so that all can believe in You . Help us to talk to those around us about the living water you provide and to worship in Spirit and in truth, knowing that is what you are looking for. Amen
