Breathe

 Ezekiel 37: 1-14 v 9 “Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, “This is what the sovereign Lords says:” Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so that they may live again.”

             The Lord took hold of the prophet Ezekiel, and the spirit took him to a land of dry bones. God asked the question “Can these dry bones become alive again?” “O Sovereign Lord, “I replied, “You alone know the answer to that.” The Lord replied, “Dry bones listen to the word of the Lord” So I spoke the message. The bones joined together, and flesh returned to them. Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, “This is what the sovereign Lords says:” Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so that they may live again.” So, I spoke the message. They all came to life and stood up. The people are saying “We have become old dry bones- all hope is gone.” Then the Lord said” I will put my spirit in you. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken.

We don’t need the spirit to take us to see the “dry bones’ in this world. Modern technology lets us know instantly where the latest war is, where there is an earthquake, a flood, a place in the world where all hope is gone. Can we make a difference in these disaster areas? Breathe life back into communities devastated by drought? Provide flour to make bread as the world supply of grain is disrupted? Renew the spiritual health of a generation as traditional churches are declining?  God alone knows the answer. But with God all things are possible. We need to listen to what He is saying and follow His commands. Breathe into these areas of disaster so that they may live again. The Lord said He will put His spirit in you. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken.

Listen to the Lord. What is the Spirit telling you to breathe life into today?  The Lord said He would put His Spirit in you. Then you will know that the Lord has spoken. So go ahead and breathe life into the world so that they may live again.

Prayer: Almighty God who knows the needs of the world open our hearts to where you want us to help with the money, time, and talents that you have given us. Help us to breathe into those who have lost hope your word so that they may live again. Amen
