Controlled by the Spirit

Romans 8:6-11v 9 “You are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you.”

Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. Letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. The sinful nature is always hostile to God. Those still in control with their sinful nature can never please God. You are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you.” And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”

There is more of my life behind me than ahead of me, on this earth anyway. My mortal body is showing signs of fatigue and decay. I wear glasses now, die my hair to cover the grey and white ones, and find my knees do not work as well on stairs as well as they used to. Having a rest sometime in the day is necessary rather than a treat. But inside of me I find I am just as alive as ever. I want to make a difference in my community, my country, and the world. The more I disconnect from my sinful nature that tells me  – owning a brand new car will set me free, one person cannot change government regulations, climate change is about big business not how I live in the world, and hate those who are a different color, have a different religion, and look away from the poor and the hungry . The more I connect with  God through the Holy Spirit within me, the more I live and find peace every day. So forget the I can do it all by myself mantra and connect with the Spirit within, your local community, world issues of hunger and poverty and experience the life that God wants you to have.

Prayer: Holy God who sent His son to re connect us to you and the Hoy Spirit as a sign that you are always with us guide our minds to search for the love you have for each one of us, for the life you bring to our mortal bodies today and every day, now and forever. Amen.
