Witnesses

Acts 2: 14a, 22-32 v 24 “But God released Him from the horrors of death and raised Him back to life, for death could not keep Him in its grip.”

Listen carefully. Listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles as you well know. But God knew what would happen. God released Him from the horrors of death and raised Him back to life, for death could not keep Him in its grip.” The Old Testament told of this though King David. God raised Jesus from the dead and we are all witnesses of this.

My husband and I love to watch TV shows about solving murders. Each time the witnesses are asked questions and the detectives are listening. We listen to try and pick up on the clues that tell us who did it. They show us things in real time to implicate some of the suspects. Like the crowd that Peter was talking to who were aware of the miracles performed by Jesus showing them that the man, Jesus the Nazarene, was favored by God. But just as in the TV shows, in the end it can only be the person or people with the right motive. Here the disciples point out God’s plan. His motive to prove to the people that Jesus was God as well as man. We see that the prophets talked about the process “you will not leave my soul amongst the dead”. And that the disciples saw the risen Jesus, God released Him from the horrors of death and raised Him back to life, for death could not keep Him in its grip.”

“David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection.” Acts 2 v 31

Just as we are often amazed at how the TV show concludes the conclusion to Jesus’s story is amazing. Listening to the witnesses gives us hope and joy as we realize that Jesus was not only a human whom God looked on with favor but was God too as His body did not rot in the grave.

Prayer: Heavenly Father who sent His Son so that we could be witnesses to your love for all, thank you. Amen.
