Unknown God

Acts 17: 22-31 v 23 “For as I was walking along, I saw your many shrines. And one of your alters had this inscription on it: “To an unknown God”. This God who you worship without knowing, is the one I am telling you about.”

Paul was preaching in Athens. To the city council, who were interested in his new teaching. He said, “For as I was walking along, I saw your many shrines. And one of your alters had this inscription on it: “To an unknown God”. This God who you worship without knowing, is the one I am telling you about.” He is the God who made the world and everything in it. He has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and He satisfies every need. His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him- though he is not far from any one of us. We shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone. He has set a day for judging the world.

Sometimes when I am reading a passage from the bible certain words stand out. Today reading this passage, the Unknown God, God has no needs, and He satisfies every need stood out. Today’s truth is that the God I believe in is unknown to many. That many people do not take the time to seek a relationship with God so again He is unknown to some. God doesn’t demand that we obey certain rules for his needs but for our own. As we understand more about Him, we realize that all our needs are satisfied.

Prayer: Holy God we thank you for being our known God, who provides all we need today and all our days. Amen.
