Luke 2: 41-52 v 46 “Three days later they finally discovered Him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions.”
Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem. When Jesus was twelve years old, they went as usual. Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem when the family returned to Nazareth. His parents started looking for him. Three days later they finally discovered Him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. Why? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house? Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

What would be said about a twelve-year-old boy today who went missing for three days? Not only would his parents be looking for him, the police, media, family and neighbors would be part of the search. And then to find him unconcerned about the stress they were in, unable to understand his explanation. No hint of being grounded or having other privileges removed. He went back with them and was obedient to them. His mother stored all these things in her heart. And Jesus continued to grow in wisdom and stature.
Pre-teens and teenagers continue today to challenge the rules set by their families. As parents we want our children to grow. Understanding the need for a spiritual side to our lives is one of the most important things we can instill in our children. At twelve Jesus demonstrated His understanding of this.
Prayer: Heavenly Father who made all things we thank you for providing Jesus as an example for us. For words in the bible that help us to understand our need for you in all we do, as we look towards joining you in your house. Amen.
