The Messiah!

Luke 9: 18 – 24 v 20 “Then He (Jesus) asked them,” But who do you say I am?”  Peter replied, “You are the Messiah, sent from God!”

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only His disciples were with Him. Then He asked them,” But who do you say I am?”  Peter replied, “You are the Messiah, sent from God!” Jesus warned His disciples not to tell anyone who He was. “The Son of Man must suffer many things.” Then He said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

If you lived while Jesus was on the earth, would you have followed Him? Would you like Peter have been aware that He was the Messiah? And will you today take on His challenge, to give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow Him? In the Western world in which I live there are so many “ways” to be, so many distractions to avoid picking up your cross, and taking time like Jesus did to leave the mainstream of life and take time to pray. But that is what He asks of us.

Try this week to take 5 minutes, to find a quiet place and pray to God, to ask Him to shine through the many distractions and to encourage you to take up some of the burdens Jesus did.

“One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone.” Luke 9 v 18

Prayer: Help me God to be quiet with you today. I am sorry for all the burdens that Jesus had to shoulder. Send the Holy Spirit to guide my thoughts to make them your thoughts for today. Amen.
