The Walk to Emmaus

Luke 24: 13-35 v 25:- “Then Jesus said to them,” You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the scriptures.”

That same day two of Jesus’s followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. As they walked Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?”  “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.” Jesus was crucified. We hoped that He was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. Then Jesus said to them,” You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the scriptures. Then Jesus took them through all the scriptures concerning Him. They asked Him to stay the night with them. As they sat down to eat, He took the bread and blessed it. Then He broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven and said, “The Lord has really risen!”

When I hear this story, I am reminded of a time I was at a conference and Lucy, the founder of Messy Church Canada  demonstrated the importance of story by standing on the stage and telling this story. No props, just her. She painted such a vivid picture I could taste the dust and feel the heat as they walked along the road, for what could have been a two-plus-hour journey. In that time Jesus created a bond between Him and the travelers, so much so that they invited Him to stay the night with them. Who has God placed in your journey that you have formed a connection with? Whether in the quiet of your own space or on your travels God wants a personal relationship with you. To spend time helping you understand the importance of your faith and to continue to deepen it every day. He will provide others along the way to help including Jesus. Jesus is alive today! Halleluiah!
