Where you there?

Job 38 v 1-7 v “Where you there when I laid the foundations of the earth?”

God answered Job out of the storm. His friends had being trying to give Job good advice but we find later that they failed. It is only God talking to Job that puts things right. Job did not loose faith although he did not understand God and God is pointing out to Job why should Job have all the answers? “Where you there when I laid the foundation of the earth?” “Who laid its corner stone when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”

I remember when the first person who was close to me died. It was my grandfather. He had had a minor operation and a few short weeks later had multiple cerebral bleeds and died. He was in his late 70’s. I was 19. The day of his funeral was bright and sunny and warm. I was miserable, mad at God, as I had not been able to see as much of my grandfather as usual as I was away at University. Why was it so sunny and bright? The sky so blue? Even now I can recall that day.

Science has certainly progressed in my lifetime but we still do not have all the answers. Why should we. Where you there when the world was created?

Prayer: Divine God we worship you. You were there. Amen.
