Luke 10:1-11,16-20v 20 “However, don’t be happy that evil spirits obey you. Be happy that your names are written in heaven.”
Jesus sent disciples out in pairs to go where He intended to go. He told them to enter a house and say the words “May there be peace in this house”. If they are made welcome to stay. To accept the food and shelter offered. To heal the sick and tell the people “The Kingdom of God is near you!” The person who hears you hears me, and the person who rejects you rejects me.” They were happy with the work they had done on their return, but Jesus told them “I watched Satan fall from heaven like lightening.” and to be happy that “your names are written in heaven.”

One of my grandsons’ favorite songs at the moment is “If your happy and you know it clap your hands.” Although he is too young to say the words he can clap and stomp his feet and put his hands up in the air “Hooray” We all feel happy when he throws his hands in the air. The disciples felt the same “happy” when they returned from their mission. They had met people who welcomed them, and the demons responded to their words. But Jesus then told them to beware. He had seen the devil’s fall from heaven. One minute you are sitting in God’s presence then in a flash, like lightening, you fall away. Today be happy in God. Thankful that He loves you. Calm in whatever storm is raging around you in the knowledge that He is holding your right hand, guiding you to a safe place. Happy knowing that you are His child, “Hooray!”
Prayer: Holy and loving Father whose love surrounds us every day, keep us safe from the temptations of this world that can lead us away from your side. Amen.
