Amos 7: 7-17 v 14 “ Amos responded, “ I’m not a prophet, and I am not a disciple of the prophets. I am a rancher and a grower of figs. But the Lord took me away from herding the flock and said to me, “Prophesy to my people Israel.”
The Lord showed Amos a plumbline. Something that measures a straight line and said He was going to hold it amongst the people of Israel. He also told the King that his family will be killed, his wife will become a prostitute and his land divided up. Israel cannot avoid being taken from its land into exile. The King did not like hearing this bad news and told the prophet to leave his land. Amos responded, “I’m not a prophet, and I am not a disciple of the prophets. I am a rancher and a grower of figs. But the Lord took me away from herding the flock and said to me, “Prophesy to my people Israel.”
Wear a mask, stay home, don’t visit the vulnerable, don’t leave the province or the country. Get a vaccination, get another vaccination, have proof wherever you go that you are vaccinated. Encourage family members to do the same. Schools are open, schools are closed, keep wearing a mask. It has been a tough time filled with information from healthcare workers that we did not want to hear. Complying with rules that were unavoidable and restricted our lives. Eventually I stopped watching the news about the COVID restrictions, as if that made a difference to the inevitable changes in our daily routines. How did those who had to share the news feel? Was it something they had prepared for or like Amos were they doing a different job and were called to be the bearer of the news by their boss? Listening to God’s word changes the direction of your life and to keep us straight sometimes a correction is needed.

I am writing this today because I got a clear message from God that my job was to write, to keep things simple and after the first year to continue. However, I tried to plan to give some of the days to others during my vacation, after all we all need a break? The message was clear, others are busy with the tasks God has given to them, keep going, you are the one meant to do this. No one needs a break from God’s work He will provide for all you need. So today I start my vacation and I hope that you will continue to enjoy the words given to me by God. I can list all the things I am not but today I choose to obey His commands and share His love with others. Live today as a child of God.
Prayer: Almighty God who sent His son Jesus as an example of how to live in this world guide us with the Holy Spirit along your path today. Amen.
