Luke 10:38-42 v 42” There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Jesus was invited into a home by Martha and her sister Mary sat and listened to Jesus. Martha was distracted by the preparation of a large meal for all her guests and asks Jesus to encourage Mary to help with the meal. Jesus replied. “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away”
I have certainly over the years been a Martha. So caught up in the doing that you miss the point of a gathering. Having invited people to your home the stress of preparing a meal for them is overwhelming. Jesus points out to Martha what really matter in this world is listening to Him and that will not be taken away from Mary. We don’t see Martha’s reaction and the continued conversation but I hope that Jesus told Marthe to take a deep breath, and that He was not worried at what time the meal would be served so slow down and it will get done. And that Martha, calm from her distraction was able to calmly get dinner on the table!

Prayer: Heavenly Father as we prepare many meals for company visiting over the summer make us calm and able to complete the task, knowing that the invitation and a caring attitude are as important as the physical preparing of the meal. In Jesus name we pray Amen.
