Genesis 15:1-6 V 5 “He took Abram outside and said, “Now look up at the sky and count the stars if you are able to count them. “He also said to him “That’s how many descendants you will have.”
Abram had visions in which the Lord spoke to him. He said, “Abram, don’t be afraid. I am your shield. Your reward will be very great.” Abram was worried however about succession. Without children who would be his heir? Suddenly the Lord spoke to Abram again. He took Abram outside and said, “Now look up at the sky and count the stars if you are able to count them. “He also said to him “That’s how many descendants you will have.”

On my recent vacation I noticed that the older generation is getting smaller, that they need looking after by our generation and that my grandchildren are beginning to experience extended family life as their parents did. The circle of life is continuing, relationships are changing, and there was discussion as Abram had about who will inherit my household. “Don’t be afraid. I am your shield.” How often do our worries wake us up? Spoil our days? Despite the promise of God to protect us. He has a plan. A plan that is good. “Your reward will be very great!” Be prepared to be amazed, to look up at the stars, and be unable to count your blessings. Yes, we need to plan who will inherit the things God has given us, but don’t forget to look up.
Prayer: Almighty God, we thank you for the promises you made to your people like Abram. That you will protect us and have a plan for us whatever stage of life we are at as we look up to you. Amen.
