Figure it out, think it through!

Luke 14:25-33 v 29 “Otherwise, if you lay a foundation and can’t finish the building, everyone who watches will make fun of you.”

Jesus used two different stories to emphasize what it takes to be a disciple. Large crowds were following Him. “So those who do not carry their crosses and follow me cannot be my disciples. If you want to build a tower first, you sit down and figure out what it costs to see if you have enough money to finish it. Otherwise, if you lay a foundation and can’t finish the building, everyone who watches will make fun of you.” If two armies are preparing to fight, first the King would sit down and think it through. To be a disciple you must give up everything.

Jesus performed many miracles and as a result many people believed in Him. There are accounts of dramatic conversions like Paul who was made blind to see the error of his ways. But here we see another important way to be a disciple, to figure it out and think it through. Christian life is a journey of discovery. Discovering more about yourself and your relationship with God. Finding out who Jesus is so others can see through your actions the benefits of Christian living so they too will take up their cross and follow Jesus. After all who wants others to look at your life and laugh? We all need to be able to live for Jesus to the end. To continue to figure it out and think it through.

“Suppose you want to build a tower. You would first sit down and figure out what it would cost. Then you would see if you have enough money to finish it.”

Prayer: Holy Father, we thank you for giving us time to study your word. Guide us today to put our faith  into action as we figure out the needs of our neighbors and show them your love. Amen.
