He is coming!

Jeremiah 23:1-6 v 5 “For the time is coming says the Lord, when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line.”

This passage starts talking about the “shepherds of my sheep” who have destroyed and scattered the very ones they were expected to care for.” God points out that He will “gather the remnants of my flock” “bring them back to their own sheepfold and they will be fruitful and increase in number.” Not a single one will be lost or missing.” He then states through the prophet Jeremiah, “for the time is coming says the Lord, when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line.”

Next Sunday starts the season of Advent, the time in the year when we wait for the coming of Jesus, for Christmas. In the passage today the second half talks of this coming. Why was it necessary to give hope to those following God at the time? Because the current leaders, the shepherds of the flock were doing things that caused the flock to be scattered. Good people were scattered all over. God promises to bring them all back, not a single one will be missing. Jesus will bring them back together.

Families and church communities are preparing for Christmas. God does not want a single one to be missing. During this special time of the year when the air is cold but hearts are warm think about the lost in your family and your Church community. Join with God in searching for those scattered far away and provide a new sheepfold or a new way for them to belong.

Prayer: Holy Father we thank you for looking for us, collecting those who are scattered, and the promise we will live in safety. As we look towards the celebration of Christmas help us to find time to wait and wonder , to join with others to find you in our daily lives. Amen.

“And this will be His name” The Lord is our righteousness” Jeremiah 23 v 6
