Choice

Deuteronomy 30: 15-20 v 15 “Now Listen. Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.”

I command you to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in His ways. If you do this you will live and multiply, the Lord will bless the land you are about to occupy. If you refuse to listen, are drawn away and worship other Gods, you will be destroyed. You will not live a good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. Today, I have given you the choice between life and death. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying Him, and committing yourself to Him. This is the key to your life.

This week in our Wednesday worship we talked about pivot points. Times in our lives that suddenly change everything. Cameron Trimble says in her book “Searching for the Sacred” “We can look back on our lives and see moments where our decisions set us on certain paths that determine the conditions for the next set of decisions. Some of our choices bring us regret and some great joy. All of them teach us. I understand the yearning for some predictability in life, some assurance that the pivot points lead to happiness rather than regret.” She concludes the meditation with these words” Embrace the pivot- God will meet you there.”

“For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commandments, decrees and regulations by walking in His ways.” Deuteronomy 30 v 16

We can see this in this passage to. The Israelites where certainly at a pivot point. After years of travelling, they were being presented with the land they would call home. And they were given instructions on making the choice to live in it and be prosperous or to be destroyed. The first choice was to love God. The second was to obey Him. As you look at your pivot point, call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. This is the key to your life.

Prayer: Holy God we love you above all else, find joy in worshipping you, and following your commands. Help us to listen to you and the faithful people around us to make the choice for life and prosperity. Amen.
