Genesis 1:1-24a v 3b “And evening passed, and morning came….”
Words that stood out
And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. God called the space “sky”. And evening passed and morning came marking the second day.” Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” The land produced vegetation- all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed bearing fruit. And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day. “Let the lights in the sky shine down on the earth” God made two great lights- the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. The fourth day. Sea creatures and birds on the fifth day. Animals and men and women the sixth day. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all the work. This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth.
Reflection

As spring gives way to summer the blossoms form fruit, the vegetables start to grow in our gardens, and the farmers are seen to be busy on the land and evening passed and morning came. As humans we can care for all the land, we can even explore the heavens, and the evening passed and the morning came. We can feel busy or enjoy a quiet day and the evening passed and the morning came. “Then God looked over all He had made, and he saw that it was very good!” The evening will pass, the morning will come, that is what God has put in place for us all. Enjoy and be part of what is good!
Prayer
O Lord, you are our shepherd,
And yet we want.
We lie down when we could act,
We stir the pot when we could offer peace,
We wander tempting paths instead of following you.
We see courage and comfort in earthly things rather than in you.
We hate our enemies and refuse to break bread with them,
We see scarcity even when you offer us abundance.
We pray for forgiveness, for your goodness and mercy,
So that we might dwell in You, in your grace, forever. Amen.
