Suddenly there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then what looked like flames of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages. When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. “How can this be “they exclaimed. Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd. “No what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit on all people. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants- men and women alike- and they will prophesy. But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
Reflection
Until today my image was of tongues of fire only on the apostles and then they went out to speak to all those that had come running, startled by the noise. But today I saw the flames appeared on everyone and later in the prophesy to men and women alike. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!! What an amazing God we have. He sent his commands and we didn’t listen, he sent his Son who was killed for us, and he also sent the Holy Spirit so each one of us would be able to connect with the divine here on earth. No exceptions. Everyone! There is a long list of different languages that heard the apostles speaking about God and understood them. God didn’t miss anyone who was there out. Most of the time God is quiet and calm and peaceful but at Pentecost He was loud and Peter shouted! Listen today for God wants everyone to hear!
